Students Empowered with Job Announcements Near Secretariat
In a bold move, students from Jagannath University have taken a stand for their rights by announcing a job schedule around the Secretariat, with an ultimatum set for Monday afternoon. The announcement was made during a press conference at the university’s Martyr Minar premises on Monday, January 13th.
Empowering Students Through Action
The President of the Job Branch of the Bangladesh Student Rights Council, A.K.M. Rakib, declared that they are giving an ultimatum. They will wait until 1:30 PM. If the university administration does not sit with the Ministry officials and military personnel, they will encircle the Secretariat. If no solution is reached by then, the main gate of the campus will be blocked, initiating a protest march.
Rakib urged all students to participate in the movement before stating the three demands made by the students yesterday. They demanded the transfer of the second campus security forces, temporary accommodation arrangements for students, and providing accommodation allowances to at least 70% of the students until temporary housing is arranged.
Student Solidarity and Protest
Following yesterday’s commencement of the hunger strike and protest, students once again gathered on Monday to continue their protest. They were seen sitting in protest at the main gate of the Secretariat. Nearly 15 students have been admitted to the hospital due to the hunger strike. Despite assurances from the authorities, the students remain steadfast in their protest.
A visual inspection reveals that students from various departments, including Biology, Sociology, Political Science, Chemistry, Computer Science, Physics, Marketing, Management Studies, Accounting and Information Systems, History, AI, Pharmacy, Mathematics, Land Management, and Law, have locked the main gate in support of the movement.
Campus Safety and Accessibility
While the main gate remains locked, no vehicles are allowed to enter the campus. However, pocket gates have been kept open for the movement of regular students.
The students have shown remarkable unity and determination in their cause, using peaceful protests and hunger strikes to advocate for their demands. The situation remains tense as students continue their demonstration in front of the Secretariat, highlighting the importance of student empowerment and activism in society.
