Week-long Honey Fair Launch at Cox’s Bazar Beach

The week-long Honey Fair has kicked off at Cox’s Bazar Beach, marking the 201st birth anniversary of renowned poet Michael Madhusudan Dutta in Keshabpur, Jashore.

Key Figures in Attendance

On Friday afternoon, Khulna Divisional Commissioner Firoz Sarkar inaugurated the fair as the chief guest. The event was chaired by Jashore District Administrator Ajaharul Islam, with special guests including Jashore Additional Police Superintendent Nur Alam Siddique, Professor Dr. Khondokar Ahsanul Kabir, Chairman of Jashore Government Michael Madhusudan College, Abul Hossain Azad of Keshabpur Upazila Parishad, former Vice President of the Central BNP Mustafizur Rahman, Islamic Amir of Jashore District Jamaat-e-Islami Golam Rasul, President of Jashore Press Club Jahid Hasan Tukun, former Chairman of Jashore Municipality and former PPI Advocate Md. Isahak, General Editor of Jashore Institute Dr. Abu Kalam Azad Liton, Founder of Prachya Sangha Writer Researcher Benjin Khan, and Regional Director of Khulna Department of Archaeology Labli Yasmin.

Welcoming Speech

The welcoming speech was given by Keshabpur Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Jakir Hossain. The fair, organized by Jashore District Administration, will continue until January 30th. The beach has been decorated with colorful arrangements for the occasion.

Highlights of the Fair

On the first day, a large number of visitors were seen at the fairground, including along the banks of the Kapotaksha River. This year, an agricultural fair has been organized within the fair, attracting a significant crowd. Visitors are exploring the fairground to purchase their favorite items.

Michael Madhusudan Dutta’s Legacy

Michael Madhusudan Dutta, born into the Datta family in Sagardari village of Keshabpur in Jashore on January 25, 1824, was a distinguished Bengali poet and playwright. His father was Zamindar Rajnarayan Dutta and mother was Jahnabi Devi. He was a prominent figure in 19th-century Bengali literature and a key figure in the Bengal Renaissance.

On June 29, 1873, Michael Madhusudan Dutta passed away.

This event is a celebration of his life and contributions to Bengali literature, attracting a diverse range of attendees from various backgrounds to commemorate his legacy.
