Empowering Women: BNPs Unconventional Gathering with Daughter-in-Laws
In a groundbreaking move, the Keshabpur Upazila unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is organizing a unique gathering centered around daughter-in-laws, breaking stereotypes and fostering strong familial bonds. The event, held at the Gaurighona Union High School field in Gaurighona on Saturday, saw the participation of numerous women from various localities. Each participant was accompanied by their respective daughters-in-law, highlighting the importance of this unconventional initiative in promoting unity and empowerment among women.
Challenging Social Norms
The unconventional nature of this gathering has sparked widespread interest throughout the upazila, with each program at the event aimed at fostering connections. Rather than focusing on the age-old narratives of conflict between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law, the event is dedicated to strengthening familial ties. Women are taking a proactive step towards women’s liberation, seeking to lead the way for a more inclusive society.
A New Perspective
Najma Sultan, the chairperson of the Nationalist Women’s Team in Jashore district, presided over the event on Saturday. The chief guest was the central member of the BNP and Upazila Chairman, Abul Hossain Azad’s wife, Rehena Azad. Addressing the audience, Rehena emphasized the prevalent misconception in society that relationships between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law are always strained. Despite occasional conflicts, the majority of these relationships are nurturing and play a crucial role in family dynamics. She highlighted the dual role these women play, both within their households and in shaping the nation.
Empowering Women for Democratic Progress
Rehena Azad stressed the importance of involving women from the grassroots level in the democratic process to achieve women’s liberation. The majority of attendees at such gatherings are mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law. In light of the fall of fascism, women who have actively participated in political movements must continue their role in establishing a democratic society. This sentiment was echoed throughout the unconventional gathering as a call to action for women to continue playing an active role in democratic progress.
Key Figures at the Event
Notable guests at the event included Nur Nahar Nuri, the co-organizer of the Jashore District Women’s Team, Mahmudul Hasan, President of the Gaurighona Union BNP, Abdul Gaffar, General Editor, Sheikh Rubel Hasanat, Organizational Editor, and BNP leader Gaji Babar Ali.
This unconventional gathering is a testament to the changing dynamics of familial relationships and the role women play in shaping society. By breaking barriers and fostering unity, the BNP’s initiative is paving the way for a more inclusive and empowered community.
