The incident was reported to the Kushtia Factory and Establishment Inspection Department. On Wednesday (April 30), Farzun Islam, the labor inspector at the Kushtia office of the Factory and Establishment Inspection Department, filed a case in the Khulna Divisional Labor Court. The application for the case was filed on Monday (April 28) at the Khulna Divisional Labor Court, and on Wednesday, Judge Sheikh Rajia Sultana finally registered the case.
The accused in the case are BAT’s Bangladesh Management Director Monisha Abraham, Head of Operations George Louis Mercedeso, Secretary and Senior Legal Counsel Syed Afzal Hossain, and Plant Manager Mukit Ahmed Choudhury of the company’s Kushtia Leaf Factory. Farhad Owab, the Deputy Chief Inspector of the Kushtia office of the Factory and Establishment Inspection Department, confirmed the matter of the case.
Allegations of violation of labor laws have been made against BAT’s seasonal workers in Kushtia, who have been protesting and following a sit-in strike since April 23, citing 22 different demands. The JH
