Selected Government to Push Ahead with Reforms: Mirza Fakhrul
In a recent statement, the BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir emphasized that there is no conflict between reforms and elections, and both can progress simultaneously without hindrance. The occasion was the 89th birth anniversary of the late President Ziaur Rahman, where Fakhrul paid tribute to party workers at his mausoleum in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka.
Reforms and Elections Hand in Hand
Fakhrul stressed the importance of engaging in discussions with political parties on the recommendations put forth by the Interim Government’s Chief Adviser regarding reforms. He highlighted that without consensus, progress is unattainable. He reiterated the commitment to continue with reforms and ensure that they are carried forward by the incoming government post-elections. From the party’s perspective, every reform will be diligently pursued without any obstacles.
The Legacy of Ziaur Rahman
Remembering the contributions of President Ziaur Rahman, Fakhrul mentioned how he laid the foundation for a multi-party system in Bangladesh through the first set of reforms. Ziaur Rahman’s tenure saw significant advancements in the economic sector and the establishment of a free-market economy, transforming the nation into a modern and prosperous state.
Continuing the Vision
Fakhrul acknowledged that under Ziaur Rahman’s leadership, the nationalist party was formed, which today stands as the largest political entity in Bangladesh, transcending all barriers and adversities. Following Ziaur Rahman, Khaleda Zia took charge of the party, further strengthening and organizing it. Currently, she is undergoing medical treatment in London, and prayers are being offered for her well-being. Tarek Rahman, her capable successor, is now leading the party, ushering in a new era of leadership in a clean and free Bangladesh.
This is a testament to the enduring legacy of Ziaur Rahman and the commitment of the BNP to uphold his vision for a prosperous and progressive Bangladesh. The party remains steadfast in its dedication to reforms and democratic processes, ensuring a bright future for the nation.
