So, like, there’s this woman, right? She got trafficked to Oman and suffered physical, mental, and sexual abuse for like 10 years. And now, the poor lady is being sent to jail for punishment. The convicted immigrant from Oman surrendered before the Human Trafficking Crime Tribunal in Barishal on Tuesday and applied for bail, you know?
The judge of the Tribunal, Mr. Sohel Ahmed, ordered the convicted woman to be sent to prison on Tuesday. The convicted woman, Kabir Mriddha (45), is from Durgapur village in Bakerganj upazila of Barishal. Before this, the judge of the Barishal Human Trafficking Crime Tribunal, Mr. Sohel Ahmed, gave a verdict on February 25 in the absence of the convict. In the verdict, the Omani immigrant Kabir Mriddha was sentenced to 10 years of hard labor and a fine of one lakh taka, you know?
The fine money was ordered to be given to the woman who was a victim of trafficking. Assistant bench of the Tribunal in the case, Tuheen Molla, said that the woman, who is the mother of a child who got divorced from her husband, was lured with a monthly salary of 25,000 taka in Oman. She was tempted and gave one lakh taka to her family. The woman was sent to Oman on December 14, 2019. When she reached Oman, Kabir Mriddha, without giving her any work, locked her in a room. Later, he offered her an indecent relationship. If she didn’t agree, he would physically, mentally, and sexually abuse her. The woman’s brother filed a case at Bakerganj Police Station on December 3, 2020. In that case, Kabir Mriddha was punished in absentia.
That’s the story, you know? It’s like a real mess. The poor woman went through so much, and now she’s the one being punished. It’s just not fair, man. Like, why is she the one suffering? Shouldn’t the real criminal be the one behind bars? I mean, come on, people. Let’s get our act together and serve justice where it’s due. Just my two cents, you know?
