Students and Citizens Demand Government Declaration for Legitimacy
In a recent joint initiative by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizen Committee, a strong condemnation was expressed regarding the government’s lack of action and slow response in issuing the declaration. The groups emphasized the critical need for the immediate release of the declaration for the government’s legitimacy approval.
Call for Swift Government Action
During a press conference organized by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizen Committee on Wednesday (January 15), Secretary of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Arif Sohel, stated in a written statement that there has been no visible progress in the issuance of the declaration within 15 days. He highlighted the failure of the government to engage in dialogue with political parties, including the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. The groups voiced strong disapproval of the government’s inaction and slow response, stressing the importance of issuing the proclamation without delay for the government’s legitimacy approval.
Unity and Historical Significance
Sohel urged the interim government to announce the date for the proclamation with the participation of stakeholders from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, the National Citizen Committee, and other participants of the public uprising. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that the proclamation aligns with future constitutional and legal frameworks to guarantee its effectiveness. Sohel called for unity among political parties to address national issues collectively and stressed the significance of the proclamation in continuing the legacy of past struggles for freedom and democracy in Bangladesh.

During the press conference, Nasiruddin Patwari, Secretary Akhtar Hossain, spokesperson Samanta Sharmin, and Chief Organizer of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Abdul Hannan Masud, were present. The groups underscored the necessity of engaging in dialogue with other political parties after which the date for the proclamation will be announced without any delays. They also rejected any form of procrastination and urged students and the public to stand united in building a strong movement for change.
