Bus Passengers Saved from Fiery Ordeal in Shailkupa
In the bustling town of Shailkupa, an unexpected disaster struck a moving bus filled with passengers, engulfing it in flames. Fortunately, the quick thinking and action of over a hundred passengers onboard averted any casualties as they swiftly exited the vehicle in the face of danger.
On a Thursday morning, along the Jhenaidah-Kushtia highway in the Mohammapur area, the terrifying incident unfolded. According to both bus officials and fire service sources, the fire erupted suddenly in the bus due to a rupture in the engine’s fuel tank and a collision with the battery, igniting a blaze that spread rapidly. Local residents initially tried to contain the fire before the news reached the Shailkupa Fire Service Station, prompting their immediate response to the scene.
Assistant driver at Rupsa Paribahan, Mominul Islam, recounted that the bus was en route from Khulna to Kushtia when the engine’s defense broke, causing it to plummet down upon reaching the Mohammadpur area in Shailkupa along the highway. The defense’s collision with the bus’s fuel tank and battery sparked the flames. Passengers wasted no time in evacuating the bus as firefighters fought tirelessly to control the inferno.
Deputy Inspector of Police (SI) Hasan from the Jhenaidah Highway Police informed that law enforcement quickly arrived at the scene upon receiving the news. No signs of foul play were detected on the bus.
Upon receiving word of the bus fire, Officer Mahiuddin from the Shailkupa Fire Service Station shared that their initial attempts to douse the flames with water proved futile. The fire, fueled by the vehicle’s oil, took on a menacing form, necessitating the use of sufficient water and foam, along with specialized equipment, to bring it under control.
The conflagration resulted in nearly 200,000 taka in damages and the recovery of 320,000 taka worth of goods, as stated by the station officer.
