So, like, apparently, on Monday, April 28, 2025, nobody could see the holy moon of the 1446 Hijri month of Zilqad in the sky of the country. As a result, on Tuesday, April 29, the holy month of Shawwal will be completed in 30 days and the counting of the holy month of Zilqad will start from Wednesday, April 30. A meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee was held at the Ashkona Hajj Camp auditorium on Monday evening to decide on this matter. Dr. A F M Khalid Hossain, adviser to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, chaired the meeting.

All district administrations, the main office of the Islamic Foundation, divisional and district offices, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, and the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Institute provided information for discussion at the meeting. Present at the meeting were Abdul Chalal Khan, Director General of the Islamic Foundation (Senior District and Sessions Judge), M. Nizamul Kabir, Chief Information Officer of the Information Department, Mo. Mehedi Hasan, Assistant Administrator of the Bangladesh Waqf, Mo. Tofazzel Hossain, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Mufti Maulana Abdul Malek, Khateeb of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, Maulana Sayed Mosaddak Billah Al Madani, President of the Charmonai Ahsania Mission Madrasa, Dr. Mohammad Shahidul Islam, Scientific Officer of the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Institute, Mo. Mominul Islam, Meteorologist of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, Mo. Najim Uddin, Additional Director of Bangladesh Television, Mohammad Shaokat Ali, Dhaka District Administrator, and Professor Mo. Ashraful Kabir, President of the Government Madrasa-e-Aliyah were present.

So, like, the meeting decided that nobody could see the moon of the holy month of Zilqad of the 1446 Hijri year in the Islamic Foundation. Not really sure why this matters, but they discussed information from various organizations and made a decision. Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like a lot of important people were at the meeting. Anyway, the holy month of Shawwal will end in 30 days and the counting of the holy month of Zilqad will start from Wednesday, April 30.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from various organizations, including the Islamic Foundation, the Information Department, the Bangladesh Waqf, and the Ministry of Religious Affairs. It’s kind of cool to see all these important people coming together to discuss something as simple as sighting the moon. Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like a big deal. Anyway, the holy month of Shawwal will end in 30 days and the counting of the holy month of Zilqad will start from Wednesday, April 30.
