Financial Assistance Program Launched for Dhaka University Female Students with Disabilities
In a groundbreaking move to support female students with disabilities residing in Dhaka University hostels, an economic assistance program will kick off in February, offering three thousand taka per month. The announcement was made during a virtual press conference on Wednesday (January 15) by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jahangir Alam Choudhury.
Support for Seat-bound Students
Professor Choudhury emphasized that female students who are qualified to stay in hostels but are unable to use seats will receive financial assistance of three thousand taka per month. He mentioned that many newly enrolled female students have been accommodated with seats, but for those who could not be accommodated, a thorough selection process will be conducted to provide them with financial aid.
New Building Construction and Financial Support
Regarding the construction of new hostels for female students, Professor Choudhury explained that the project is expected to take around three years. He highlighted the significant cost of seating arrangements in hostels near Dhaka University, where approximately four and a half thousand taka is required for a single seat. Hence, the decision was made to provide three thousand taka in financial aid.
Selection Process and Committee Approval
Professor Choudhury further mentioned that a committee named “Selection and Approval Committee” will compile a list of eligible candidates from each hostel for the financial aid program. Based on their recommendations, the financial support will be distributed accordingly.
In attendance at the press conference were Dhaka University’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Saima Haque Bidisha, Assistant Professor Saifuddin Ahmed, and the Chair of the Provost Standing Committee, Abdullah-Al-Mamun.
The initiative aims to provide equal opportunities for all female students at Dhaka University and ensure that those facing physical limitations receive the necessary support to pursue their education effectively. With this program in place, the university strives to create an inclusive and accessible environment for all students, regardless of their physical challenges.
