Protests Erupt Near Chapainawabganj Border and Dhaka University
In a recent development near the Chapainawabganj border, three Bangladeshi citizens were injured in an attack by Indian nationals, sparking outrage among Dhaka University students. The incident unfolded on Saturday night, January 18th, as a group of students initiated a protest march under the banner of ‘Students Against Aggression.’
Dhaka University Students Take a Stand
The protest gained momentum as freedom fighter Jiaur Rahman led a procession to the Vice-Chancellor’s courtyard, where students congregated. Slogans like ‘Bangladesh will respond if attacked on the border,’ ‘Retreat Delhi, respect the people’s will,’ and ‘You are who, I am who; Bangladesh, Bangladesh’ echoed throughout the march.
One student from the Department of Sociology, Hasib Al Islam, emphasized the significance of Bengali blood coursing through their veins. He expressed defiance towards the Delhi government’s actions and asserted Bangladesh’s readiness to respond to any Indian military intervention. He highlighted the lack of potential for friendship between Delhi and Dhaka, given India’s recent behavior.
Students Voice Their Concerns
Raijawan Ahmed Rifat, a law student, spoke out about the farmers in Chapainawabganj standing against India. He pledged to protect their land, ensuring not an inch of Bangladeshi soil would fall under Indian control. Rifat condemned Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for seeking refuge in India, vowing that justice would prevail on Bangladeshi soil.
Meanwhile, Arabi department student M. A. Said criticized Delhi for causing distress by delaying the repatriation of prisoners. He warned that such actions could incite anger among the Bangladeshi populace. Said made it clear that any attempt by the Indian military to assert dominance over Bangladesh would be met with fierce resistance.
International Students Stand in Solidarity
International Relations student Sakib Ahmed and Philosophy student Sardar Nadim Mahmud Shubho, along with students from various departments, also joined the demonstration to show their support.
The students’ unified voice underscores a deep-rooted sentiment of patriotism and resistance against any external aggression. This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the unwavering spirit and resolve of the Bangladeshi youth in safeguarding their sovereignty and national identity amidst growing tensions.
As the echoes of protest reverberate through the university campus, the resounding message is clear – the youth of Bangladesh stand united in defense of their homeland, ready to face any challenge that threatens their independence and integrity.
