**Deadly Drone Attack Claims 70 Lives in Sudan Hospital**
In a tragic incident that shook Sudan to its core, a deadly drone attack on a hospital has claimed the lives of 70 individuals, with many more sustaining injuries. The assault took place last Friday, January 24th, in one of the hospitals in the El Fasher region of Darfur.
The initial reports indicated that 30 people lost their lives in the immediate aftermath of the attack, but the death toll has since risen to 67. Shockingly, Governor Minnie Minawi shared a graphic image of a bloodied corpse on social media, stating that more than 70 patients, including women and children, were killed in the heinous act.
The ongoing conflict in Sudan between the government forces and the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has been raging for over four years. The exact perpetrators of this drone attack remain unknown, adding another layer of complexity to an already volatile situation.
Since April 15, 2023, clashes between the military and RSF have intensified, with the RSF gaining control over vast swathes of the western region of Darfur. Furthermore, the RSF has imposed a blockade on El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, since May last year.
The relentless fighting between the two factions has resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians and forced millions to flee their homes. The government estimates that nearly 80% of the country’s healthcare infrastructure has been decimated due to the conflict.
As the people of Sudan reel from this latest tragedy, the international community stands witness to the devastating impact of warfare on civilian populations. The need for urgent intervention to end the bloodshed and restore peace in Sudan has never been more apparent.
