‘Hilarious Laughter of Krishnadas’ to Light Up Dhaka and Jessore Stages

Tomorrow evening, on Tuesday, January 28th, the stage will come alive with the adaptation of the iconic novel ‘Krishnadaser Hasi’ written by Shawkat Osman, a masterpiece that captures the essence of laughter and love.

The presentation will take place at the National Theatre Hall of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka and will continue on January 31st at the Shilpakala Academy Milonayoton in Jessore.

Directed by Dr. Saydur Rahman Lipon, head of the Department of Drama at Rabindra Srijonkola University, the play tells the story of the beautiful love between the Baghdad ruler Harun Rashid and the begum Jubaida, set against the backdrop of the humorous antics of Habsi Gollam Tatar.

The narrative unfolds with a touch of envy as Harun Rashid, unable to laugh, becomes jealous of the infectious laughter shared by Tatar and Jubaida. His attempt to force a divide between them leads to unexpected consequences, showcasing a tale of love, laughter, and human emotions.

Dr. Saydur Rahman Lipon, the director of ‘Krishnadaser Hasi,’ remarks on the evolution of the concept of servitude in modern socio-economic structures, despite the waning of traditional notions of slavery. He emphasizes the shift towards a new liberal era, where power dynamics and personal freedom are redefined, urging the audience to reflect on these themes.

The production is a collaborative effort of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, featuring the creative vision of Professor Mahsina Aktar in set and costume design, the insightful direction of Dheeman Chandra Barman in lighting, and the choreography expertise of S.M. Hasan Istiyak.

Audiences can enjoy the play by purchasing tickets priced at 500, 300, or 200 taka, available for online booking at https://tuca.edu.bd/book-ticket-kritodasher-hashi/ or by contacting +8801962841012 directly.
