The World Ijtema, the largest congregation of Jummah prayers in the country, was recently held at the Ijtema ground. People gathered to participate in the Jummah prayers held twice on Friday. The event was led by Maulana Jubayer Ahmed of the Tabligh Jamaat. It kicked off with the first part of the 58th World Ijtema with a speech by Maulana Ibrahim Dewl of India on Thursday evening.

The World Ijtema attracted 2150 Muslim devotees from 72 countries to the Ijtema ground this year. The local organizers, known as Murubbis of the Tabligh Jamaat, revealed that the congregation is an annual event held on the banks of the Turag River in Gazipur. It draws millions of devout Muslims from home and abroad, including prominent Maulanas from around the world. The event marks the 58th edition of the World Ijtema, known as the second-largest gathering of Muslim Ummah.

The Ijtema saw a massive influx of devotees from Gazipur and nearby districts to perform the Jummah prayers. Many arrived at the ground even late at night to secure their spots for the prayers. The peaceful conduct of the event was ensured with strong security measures in place, including the deployment of seven thousand police officers and various law enforcement agencies. Surveillance towers, drones, CCTV cameras, helicopter patrols, and mobile courts were set up to maintain law and order.

The congregation is divided into three parts this year, led by the organizers Shuraiee Nejam Anusarira. The first and second parts will be led by Maulana Jubayer and Maulana Saad, respectively. The event will conclude with the third part led by Maulana Saad starting on February 14th. The 58th World Ijtema will conclude with the final prayers on February 16th.

Habibullah Rayhan, the media coordinator for Shuraiee Nejam, shared that 2150 foreign devotees had already taken part in the event. The foreign participants have been accommodated separately, with arrangements made for their meals and stay. Foreign devotees will continue to join the Ijtema until February 5th.

The first part of the World Ijtema saw a massive turnout of devotees at the ground. Many Muslims who couldn’t find space at the venue resorted to praying on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway and Kamarpada Road. The congregation continued peacefully, with devotees coming together to fulfill their religious duties.
