Illegal Border Crossing Leads to Seizure of Multiple Currencies

A Bangladeshi man named Faim Syed Ahmed, 47, was apprehended by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) near the Panchagarh border when attempting to cross into India illegally. Upon searching him, authorities discovered a bag containing American dollars, Chinese yuan, Indian rupees, totaling nearly 50,000 in various currencies, along with two mobile phones.

Details of the Arrest

The incident took place on Friday morning, confirmed by Major Riyad Morshed, the Deputy Commander of the Panchagarh-18 BGB Battalion. Prior to this, on Thursday night, Faim was caught near Main Pillar 422, Sub-Pillar 10, approximately 100 yards inside Bangladesh from the border area in the Amatoli region of the Sadar Upazila, within the Mirgad BGB Camp jurisdiction.

It has been reported that Faim is the son of the late Abu Ahmed from the Rayar Bazar area of western Tallabagh in Dhaka.

Border Guard’s Account

According to BGB sources, Faim was wandering in the Amatoli area near the border on Thursday night, attempting to infiltrate into India. With the help of locals, he was intercepted by the BGB. Upon searching his bag, various Bangladeshi currency notes amounting to 3,000 taka, three 100-dollar bills, several Indian rupee notes totaling 5,510, 737 Chinese yuan, and two mobile phones were seized. He was later transferred to the Sadar Police Station.

Major Riyad Morshed of the BGB stated that the individual was trying to sneak into India at the time of his arrest.
