In a shocking turn of events in Noakhali’s Sadar Upazila, a group of burglars and robbers targeted the home of an immigrant in broad daylight. The perpetrators not only broke into the house but also ruthlessly threw all belongings into the nearby pond and on the streets. The brazen act resulted in the arrest of one individual, shedding light on the rising incidents of crime against immigrants in the area.
The incident unfolded on a Friday afternoon in the village of Krishnapur, under the jurisdiction of Union Councilor Kadir Hanif in Noakhali. As news of the burglary and robbery spread, a team of police and military personnel swiftly arrived at the scene, managing to apprehend one suspect while the others managed to escape. The locals revealed that a dispute had been brewing between Saudia-bound immigrant Nurul Afsar Sumon, son of the late Hamid Ullah, and Shah Alam’s two sons, Alomgir and Jahangir, in the same area. The matter had escalated to the point where multiple reconciliations were attempted by the community, with tensions reaching a boiling point in recent days due to threats directed at Sumon by Alomgir.
At around 5 PM on Friday, led by Alomgir and Jahangir, a group of armed individuals arrived at Sumon’s residence on six to seven microbuses, launching a violent attack. The assailants forcibly entered Sumon’s house by breaking the gate and proceeded to assault Sumon’s wife, mother-in-law, and other female family members, leaving them injured. In a state of panic, they managed to escape from the house. The criminals ransacked the entire house, looting cash, jewelry, and other valuable items, before throwing household items such as beds, sofas, refrigerators, washing machines, laptops, and utensils into the nearby pond and on the streets as they made their escape.
Officer-in-Charge Kamrul Islam of Sudharam Police Station reported that upon receiving news of the burglary, two police teams were dispatched to the scene, with a military patrol team also responding promptly. Alomgir was apprehended at the scene, and legal action will be taken based on the written complaint filed regarding the incident.
This alarming incident sheds light on the vulnerability of immigrants and the escalating tensions that can lead to such violent acts. The community must come together to address underlying issues and prevent such crimes from occurring in the future. The authorities must also ensure swift justice and provide adequate protection to those at risk of being targeted by criminal elements.
