In a heart-wrenching turn of events, an eight-year-old child who fell victim to sexual abuse at her sister’s home in Magura is now receiving life support, as reported by the child’s relatives. The incident unfolded on Friday night at 9 PM when the child was rushed to receive life support. The child’s uncle, Yusuf Sheikh, confirmed the deteriorating condition of the child, stating that the medical personnel noted a decline in her health, leading to the decision to provide life support pending consent from the family.
The child was previously admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Thursday night and later transferred to Magura Sadar’s Nijananduali village, where her sister resides. The horrific incident occurred on Wednesday night at 2 AM when the child was subjected to abuse upon arriving at her sister’s home. Her cousin, Sujon Vishwas, recounted the events, stating that the child was immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College for treatment. The medical staff informed the family that the child remains unconscious, her condition critical.
Desperate Measures for Survival
Further details revealed that the child hails from Jariria village under Shripur Thana in Magura district, while her elder sister’s in-laws reside in Nijananduali village. Tragically, the child was visiting her sister’s home on Saturday when the assault occurred. The heinous act was committed by her sister’s husband, Sajib Hossain (18), and his brother-in-law, Hitu Sheikh (42), who then confined the child in a separate room after inflicting injuries. The next morning, the child’s sister-in-law rushed her to the hospital, alerting the neighbors of the gruesome incident. Subsequently, the police apprehended Sajib and Hitu, taking them into custody.
The child was initially brought to Mymensingh Sadar Hospital with 250 stitches before being transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital due to her deteriorating condition. From there, she was further referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced medical care. The medical team reported that the child’s condition remains critical, with her currently in an unconscious state and injuries to her neck indicating a severe assault. Presently, the child is admitted to the Dhammek Hospital’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
A Mother’s Agony and Law Enforcement’s Response
Upon arrival at the hospital, the child’s mother was in a state of near unconsciousness, overwhelmed with despair. Meanwhile, her elder sister has also arrived from Dhaka to be by her side, though one relative remains at home. The distraught mother repeatedly expresses her anguish, questioning the fate of her daughter and seeking justice for the perpetrators. Inspector Faruk, in charge of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, emphasized the severity of the child’s condition, as relayed by the medical professionals.
However, due to privacy concerns, a medical practitioner chose to remain anonymous but disclosed that the child is currently under life support. Further updates on her condition and treatment plan will be provided tomorrow. As the community grapples with this harrowing incident, the need for swift justice and support for the victim and her family becomes increasingly urgent.
