Tragic Incident in Fatickchari: Elderly Victim of Fatal Attack Due to Sand Extraction
In a heartbreaking incident in Fatickchari, a 65-year-old man named Dulal lost his life in an attack that stemmed from sand extraction activities obstructing the area. The tragedy unfolded on Thursday afternoon in the Masterpara area of Ward 3 in Bagambazar, Rupayichhari Khal.
Details of the Incident
Dulal was rushed to Chittagong Medical College (CMEK) Hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in the evening around 6 pm. The deceased, Abdul Kader’s son, was a resident of Masterpara.
According to the victim’s grandson, Mohammad Anwar, local sand smugglers were illegally using a dredger machine to extract sand near their property in Rupayichhari. When they attempted to stop the sand extraction in the morning, they were met with violent retaliation. At one point, the attackers struck Dulal on the head with an iron-made handle of the dredger machine, causing him to fall to the ground.
Rescue Efforts and Consequences
Local residents rescued Dulal and transported him to Ramgarh Upazila Health Complex before being referred to CMEK Hospital for further medical attention. Despite the efforts to save him, Dulal tragically passed away at the hospital in the evening.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mo. Mahbubul Haque of Bhujpur Police Station informed Banglanews that the fatal attack occurred when the elderly man tried to intervene in the sand extraction activities disrupting the area. Authorities are currently working to apprehend those involved in the incident.
