Divisional Commissioner Plans Fair Election Gift

In Chittagong, the National Voter’s Day was celebrated for the 7th time with the theme “Your My Bangladesh, Let’s Vote Together.” The day was marked by a vibrant rally that started at 10 a.m. from the Circuit House area in the city.

Leading the rally was Dr. Mo. Ziauddin, the Divisional Commissioner of Chittagong, who was accompanied by government and non-government officials from various departments. The rally commenced with a balloon launch, symbolizing the auspicious beginning of the day’s events.

Following the rally, a conference was held at the Circuit House auditorium, presided over by the Regional Election Officer Mohammed Belaet Hossain Chowdhury and supervised by Senior District Election Officer Mohammed Bashir Ahmed. The discussion forum was graced by distinguished guests, including Deputy Inspector General Sanjay Sarkar, District Administrator Farida Khanam, and Additional Deputy Commissioner (South) Mo. Mahmudul Hasan. Also present were officials from regional and district election offices, as well as police stations.

During his keynote address, the Divisional Commissioner stressed the importance of raising awareness among citizens and encouraging voter turnout. He emphasized the commitment to uphold the promise of impartial elections and highlighted the historical significance of voting in the Indian subcontinent, dating back to the era of monarchies.

The Commissioner underscored that the practice of electing rulers through voting has ancient roots in the region, citing examples of Rajas being elected by the populace. He mentioned the Pal dynasty, which ruled for nearly 400 years after being chosen through a similar democratic process. He called for a revival of democratic values and a restoration of the electoral system to ensure that the people of the country receive the gift of fair elections under any circumstances.

To further facilitate the electoral process, from noon onwards, NID services were provided at the offices of regional election officials across the district.
