Chasik Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossen has taken significant steps to address the prevailing issue of waterlogging in the city. Among these initiatives, the development of 36 canals and the cleaning of a 1600-kilometer-long canal stand out as crucial efforts towards alleviating the waterlogging problem. The inauguration ceremony of a foot overbridge, spanning 27.5 meters in length and 3 meters in width, was held in front of Sanwara Islam High School on Monday, March 3rd. During this event, Mayor Hossen urged city residents to participate in cleanliness campaigns and emphasized the proper management of waste, debris, and plastic disposal. The construction cost of the foot overbridge amounted to approximately 14.4 million Takas, and the Chittagong City Corporation has undertaken the task of constructing a total of 38 foot overbridges, with several already inaugurated.
Development Projects and Infrastructure Enhancements
The inauguration event was attended by key personnel involved in the projects, including Project Director Anisur Rahman, Chief Engineer Jasim Uddin, Executive Engineer Ashikul Islam, Mahbubul Alam, former councilor Mohammad Azam, and other officials. Mayor Shahadat Hossen highlighted the construction of the Balurtal Bridge, measuring 25 meters in length and constructed at a cost of 54.1 million Takas. Despite the current Arakan Road being a 4-lane structure, the Balurtal Bridge, initially built as a 2-lane bridge, posed traffic congestion issues. The bridge’s capacity is currently being upgraded to accommodate 4 lanes, with the goal of enhancing connectivity between Chandgaon, Mohra, Kalurghat regions and the city of Chittagong. The Kalurghat Bridge construction project aims to improve connectivity between these regions and the city, with a target to complete construction within the next six months.
Call for Community Support and Awareness
Mayor Hossen extended his gratitude for the community’s cooperation and urged everyone to remain vigilant against any form of corruption or substandard materials used in these projects. Ensuring the quality and integrity of the infrastructure projects is paramount to the city’s development and sustainability. The mayor emphasized the importance of community participation in maintaining cleanliness and proper waste disposal practices to combat waterlogging effectively. As the city continues to evolve and grow, the collaboration between the government and its citizens becomes crucial in addressing urban challenges and fostering a sustainable environment for all residents.
The concerted efforts to address waterlogging issues in Chasik through canal development and infrastructure enhancements mark a significant milestone in the city’s development journey. With ongoing projects aimed at improving connectivity, traffic flow, and overall infrastructure, Chasik is poised for a transformative urban landscape that prioritizes sustainability and community well-being. Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossen’s leadership and vision for a cleaner, more resilient city underscore the importance of proactive governance and citizen engagement in shaping a better future for all.
