In a bustling city, a tale of theft unfolded, involving an Italian woman’s passport, mobile phone, cash, and other valuables. Within just 12 hours of the incident, two professional thieves were apprehended by the police. The suspects, Khorsed Alam and Shahin Mia, were swiftly captured in connection to the theft involving the Italian citizen.

The incident took place in the Turag area of the capital city, Dhaka. The Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Media and Public Relations Department, Mohammad Talebur Rahman, confirmed the details of the case on Monday, February 3rd. A separate operation was conducted on Sunday, February 2nd, in the Turag police precinct, leading to the arrest of the culprits and the recovery of the stolen items.

It all began when Tania Mohammed Sheikh Noor, the Italian citizen, arrived in Dhaka from Italy on a flight to Shahjalal International Airport. She hired a motorcycle taxi to take her to a hostel in the 19th sector of Uttara-West Thana. However, the motorcyclist diverted her route and took her to Sector 15 under Turag Thana, near a bridge adjacent to a metro station. There, he forcefully seized her belongings, including her Italian passport, iPhone 13, charger, MacBook charger, identity card, bank card, perfume, Italian book, and €50 in cash.

Upon the victim’s report, a formal case was filed at the Turag police station. Through CCTV footage analysis and technological assistance, the motorcycle taxi driver, Mohammad Khorsed Alam, was identified within 12 hours of the incident. Consequently, a raid was conducted in the Pakuria Hasur Botola area of Turag Thana, leading to Khorsed’s arrest.

Based on the information provided by Khorsed, another operation was carried out in a house in Pakuria area, leading to the arrest of Shahin Mia, the accomplice involved in the theft. Both suspects admitted to being active members of a professional theft ring, targeting unsuspecting passengers in secluded areas to steal their money and valuables.

Following the victim’s ordeal, the Turag police and the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s North Division personnel provided Tania Mohammed Sheikh Noor with immediate mental support and other necessary assistance. Within a short timeframe, her stolen passport, mobile phone, and other belongings were recovered, prompting Tania to express heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police and the Bangladesh Police.

As the case unfolds, the two arrested thieves are currently under legal proceedings. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and caution, especially when traveling to unfamiliar places. The swift action by law enforcement agencies not only led to the recovery of stolen items but also provided a sense of justice and relief to the victim.

In a heartwarming gesture, Tania Mohammed Sheikh Noor extended her sincere thanks to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police and the Bangladesh Police for their prompt and efficient response to the unfortunate incident. The incident, although distressing, highlights the importance of community support and swift law enforcement action in ensuring the safety and security of individuals, both locals, and foreigners alike.
