International University of Business Agriculture and Technology Celebrates 34th Foundation Anniversary
Dhaka, Bangladesh: The International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) marked its 34th founding anniversary on Thursday, making it the country’s first private university to celebrate such a milestone. Established in 1991 by Dr. M. Alimullah Miyan, a former professor at Dhaka University and the founder of IUBAT, the university stands on a sprawling 20-acre green campus in northern Dhaka, setting it apart from other private institutions in the country.
Unique Academic Offerings and Global Impact
IUBAT has paved a unique path in higher education by introducing programs like BBA, Hotel Management, as well as private-sector initiatives in Agriculture, Nursing, and Mechanical Engineering. With 14 departments under six faculties, the university caters to thousands of students from both home and abroad. Over the past three decades, IUBAT graduates have excelled in various national and international organizations, enhancing the country’s reputation.
Research Excellence and Recognition
The university has maintained a significant position in research and rankings, securing the fourth position among private universities in research in 2024. IUBAT also holds a prominent position in renowned global rankings like QS and Times Higher Education. Despite financial constraints in higher education, IUBAT ensures special provisions for disadvantaged students, offering scholarships up to 100% based on SSC/HSC or equivalent exam results. Women are encouraged in higher education with special scholarships in over 120 categories to inspire academic excellence.

As a journalist, I had the privilege of attending the foundation anniversary celebration at IUBAT, where the atmosphere was filled with pride and enthusiasm. Seeing the dedication of the faculty, staff, and students firsthand, it was evident that IUBAT’s impact reaches far beyond its campus boundaries. The commitment to quality education and research excellence was palpable, making it clear why IUBAT holds a special place in the hearts of many Bangladeshis.
