Journalist and Father Murdered in Kuakata

In a tragic incident in Kuakata, journalist K M Bachchu and his elderly father Yunus Khalifa were allegedly murdered by members of labor and farmer unions. The incident took place on Sunday night around 8 pm in the Kuakata Chowrasta area.

According to local sources, journalist K M Bachchu was engaged in a conversation with a person in the area when he was approached by Ali Khandakar, the president of the local farmer union, who began verbally abusing a peanut vendor. When Yunus Khalifa, Bachchu’s father, intervened, Ali Khandakar launched a physical attack on him.

Upon hearing his father’s protest, Ali Khandakar turned his aggression towards Bachchu. Within moments, a group of 20-25 individuals, led by Jasim Mridha, the vice-president of the labor union, descended on the father-son duo, brutally assaulting them with sticks and rods.

Eyewitness Rasel recounted the harrowing scene, stating that if he had tried to intervene to save Bachchu, he would have met the same fate. The duo was rushed to the Kuakata Hospital by locals, where they received medical treatment.

Despite attempts to contact Ali Khandakar, the president of the local farmer union, his phone remains unreachable. Vice-president Jasim Mridha shared his version of events, claiming that he arrived on the scene to find Bachchu Khalifa under attack. When he tried to intervene, Bachchu turned on him, prompting Mridha to seek medical treatment at Kuakata Hospital.

Officer-in-charge Tarikul Islam of Mahipur Police Station assured that the situation is currently under control. Legal action will be taken if a formal complaint is lodged regarding the incident.
