Student League Attacks on MM College at Night, Students Defend Themselves

In a shocking turn of events, on Monday night, government Michael Madhusudan (MM) College in Jashore fell victim to an attack by miscreants, with the students rising to defend themselves. One student sustained injuries and was admitted to the hospital. The attackers, led by a miscreant named Sagar, targeted two student leaders and an ordinary student from the college’s student union. In a show of unity, the students, along with activists from the anti-discrimination movement, bravely fought back against the miscreants, driving them away in utter confusion.

Local Troublemaker Turns Violent

Sagar, the youth accused in the incident, is a well-known local troublemaker. Previously associated with the ruling party’s student wing, he had established a reign of terror around MM College campus and its surrounding areas. Following the downfall of the Awami League on August 5, Sagar went into hiding. Recently, he resurfaced in the area, trying to reestablish his dominance in the campus and the adjacent areas plagued by various crimes.

Community Celebrations Turned Chaotic

The incident took place amidst a day-long festival and cultural event at MM College on Monday. The college premises were bustling with students and visitors. However, as night fell, Sagar, along with his gang, launched an attack on two student leaders and an ordinary student. Despite initial aggression, the students managed to overpower Sagar. His followers attempted a counterattack, leading to a clash near Sagar’s hideout in the Hawkers Market. Several shops were vandalized, and various slogans were shouted during the chaos.

Police Intervention and Legal Action

By 8:00 PM, the area around MM College witnessed a significant decrease in pedestrian traffic. Key figures from the local youth group, including EM Tamal Ahmed, editor Ansharul Haque Rana, and Jashore Student Union President Rajidur Rahman, arrived at the scene upon hearing the news. Subsequently, the police were alerted and promptly arrived to restore order. By 10:00 PM, the situation had calmed down, with all parties making efforts to de-escalate the tension.

Rajidur Rahman, the president of Jashore District Student Union, reported that Sagar and his accomplices physically assaulted several students. In response, the students took to the streets to protest the violence. One student, Rohan, fell ill during the demonstration and was later hospitalized. Rahman further stated that multiple cases are pending against Sagar at the Kotwali Police Station for his criminal activities. Despite being released on bail recently, Sagar has once again engaged in unlawful behavior. Legal actions are underway to address the situation.

As the community grapples with this disturbing incident, it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of unity and vigilance in the face of adversity. The resilience shown by the students in protecting their college and fellow peers is commendable and stands as a testament to the power of collective action against injustice.
