In a surprising turn of events, a former 24MP car is up for auction in Chittagong. The Customs Department is set to auction off these cars next week and deposit the proceeds into the government treasury. The car in question is a Toyota Land Cruiser.

Details of the Auction
According to Customs information, the former MPs paid between 95 lakh to 1 crore taka for importing these cars. The total value of the cars, including duties, has been set at 9 crore 67 lakh taka. Interested buyers can bid on these cars, with the highest bidder able to purchase each car for 5 crore 80 lakh taka. One car, including taxes, will cost 7 crore 25 lakh taka.
Auction Process and Dates
Chittagong Customs’ Deputy Commissioner Syedul Islam stated that 24 cars will be auctioned online starting Sunday, January 26th. Prospective buyers can view these cars at the new car shed between February 2nd-4th. The auction will conclude on February 16th, and all transactions will be conducted online.
Revenue and Tax Implications
Each car has generated revenue ranging from 4 lakh 80 thousand to 5 lakh taka in income tax for the government due to the duty-free facility. If all the cars are successfully auctioned, the government stands to make around 7 crore taka per car.
