Student Union President Warns Against Stopping Campus Protests

Dhaka University (DU): In a bold statement, the Student Union President, Rakibul Islam Rakib, has cautioned that if the history of sacrifice, struggle, and resistance by student unions over the past 15 years is disregarded, it will be consigned to the dustbin. He has also demanded a ban on underground politics on all university campuses across the country.

March for Justice Rally

On Saturday (January 18) afternoon, while participating in the ‘March for Justice’ campaign at Central Shaheed Minar, Rakib expressed these sentiments. The campaign kickstarted earlier in the day in front of the Institute of Engineers. Subsequently, a procession led by student activists made its way to Shaheed Minar, with representatives from various units of Dhaka University, Jahangirnagar University, and different units in Dhaka city joining in.

Unity Against Fascism

Rakib highlighted the unity achieved by all political parties under the leadership of the anti-fascist student movement in July-August. Emphasizing the need to stand against fascism, he urged everyone to be vigilant and not engage in any activities that could disrupt this unity. Furthermore, he criticized the government and university administrations for not showing equal willingness to bring leaders of the Chhatra League to justice.

Call for Immediate Investigations

Investigation committees have been set up in various campuses, including Dhaka University and Jahangirnagar University, to identify the perpetrators of attacks on students during the July-August movement. Rakib stressed the urgency of issuing investigation reports against the Chhatra League and ensuring the revocation of their student leadership and accountability under the law. He also urged prompt action to facilitate the return process for those affected by any delays.

Now, let’s add a humanizing touch to connect with the audience on a personal level:
