Former MP Kader Khan Sentenced to Death in MP Liton Murder Case
Former Member of Parliament (MP) Kader Khan has been found dead in a critical state while serving his death sentence in the murder case of MP Liton in Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj) constituency. The news was confirmed by his sister, Habibur Rahman, an assistant professor at a private college in Gaibandha.
Kader Khan, aged 78, was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital after suffering a stroke in Keraniganj Jail on October 9 last year. Due to a deterioration in his health, he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on October 13.
On January 15, life support was provided to him due to his critical condition. Unfortunately, he passed away on Sunday morning around 4 am. Kader Khan is survived by his wife and their only son, who are both doctors.
In 2016, on December 31, MP Manjurul Islam Liton, from the Awami League party, was shot dead at his residence in Bamandaungar, Masterpara, Sundarganj Upazila of Gaibandha-1 constituency. Following the incident, Liton’s elder sister, Fahmida Kakali, filed a case at the Sundarganj Police Station. The case identified five to six unknown suspects. On December 5, 2019, Gaibandha District and Sessions Judge Dilip Kumar Bhowmik sentenced seven accused, including former MP Kader Khan, to death in the murder case. Additionally, Abdul Kader Khan was also given a life imprisonment order in an arms law case related to Liton’s murder.
This tragic incident has left a mark on the political landscape of Gaibandha-1 constituency and has brought to light the harsh reality of violence in the region. The legal proceedings and subsequent sentences serve as a reminder of the consequences of such heinous acts in society.
