Government to Recruit 600 Traffic Police Officers, Offering Daily Allowance of 560 Taka

In a bid to support the rehabilitation of students injured in anti-racism protests and improve traffic discipline, the government has decided to recruit 600 auxiliary traffic police officers. Each officer will receive a daily allowance of 560 Taka for their service.

Expert Approval and Work Details

The proposal from the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Public Security Division received approval from the Ministry of Finance after careful consideration of the overall situation. The recruited auxiliary traffic police officers will work four hours a day until June 30th of the 2024-2025 fiscal year, with the opportunity to work two shifts a day. The total expenditure for the 245 working days in the upcoming fiscal year is estimated to be 8 crore 23 lakh 20 thousand Taka.

Former Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mo. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, revealed that the first stage of recruiting 100 police officers into the police force has already begun to address the needs of students injured in anti-racism protests. The recruitment process has started in the police force and will eventually extend to all departments under the ministry. A proposal has been sent to recruit 1000 students for traffic control.

Financial Aspects and Conditions

The Ministry of Finance’s Budget-1 branch has issued a letter stating that the daily allowance for auxiliary traffic police officers will be set according to Section 10 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance 1976. The Finance Division determines the daily allowance rates for auxiliary traffic police officers based on the letter.

According to the letter, due to a shortage of Ansar members involved in discipline, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police has requested the determination of the allowance for 600 auxiliary police officers according to Section 10 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance 1976. The proposal from the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Public Security Division specifies that 600 auxiliary police officers will be recruited. They will work four hours a day starting from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. for the first shift and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. for the second shift. Each officer will receive 560 Taka per day, including VAT and taxes. The recruitment process will continue until June 30th.

Terms and Conditions

The Ministry of Finance has set certain conditions for the recruitment of auxiliary traffic police officers. These conditions include:
